World IPv6 Day, a trial for future technology implementation internet protocol version 6 (IPv6), was held on June 8, 2011, run successfully. Several reputable websites that participate in this program stated that there is no complaint from their customers. This project is sponsored by Internet Society to anticipate the implementation of IPv6 in the future.
Many parties think that IPv6 transition is as important as Y2K in 2000. This trial was held to see the possibilities might come when all websites should transfer into a new addressing method. Yesterday, there are more than 400 websites from government, companies, education institutions participate in this trial, such as Google, Facebook, Yahoo, and Bing.
All of us already know that Internet Protocol is an addressing system for websites and the most important part of accessing and communicating information. We are using IPv4 since 1983 with 4.2 millions addresses, but since the number of Internet users all around the world keeps increasing, IPv4 is no longer enough.
The available space of IPv4 is only 10% of its capacity: around 4 millions address. This amount is not enough to anticipate the future usage of Internet. Thus, the success of IPv6 is very important, both now and in the future.
